Web Design and Development
Our goal is to provide clients with a product that they can use and be proud of, at a price they can afford. We specialize in building simple, easy-to-navigate websites that are search engine friendly and easy to update. WordPress is a very flexible platform and can be used for brochure style sites, e-commerce sites, blogs and more. This option is becoming increasingly popular for clients who wish to save money because they won’t have to pay someone every time they want to make changes to the site’s content.
Here’s an outline describing the process for working on a WordPress website with UGiveGoodWeb.
What’s Needed for Your WordPress Website?
1. A domain name – an address like ugivegoodweb.com, Google.com or mynonprofit.org.
2. A web hosting account – a service that allows you to store your website files and makes your site available 24 hours a day. I recommend Bluehost.
3. WordPress – a program that creates the files you need for your website.
4. WordPress theme – specially coded pages that control the colors, (some) graphics and page layouts for your website.
The Design Process for Your Website
Your theme provides the basic design of your site, but we need to define:
1. The pages you’ll want on your site (e.g. “About Me” page, contact form, blog, etc).
2. The content (text, pictures, etc.)you want on each page.
3. Where images, video, audio and text will be positioned on your pages.
4. If you want any changes to the theme colors, graphics, fonts, font sizes or layout.
Content of Your Website
You’ll need to provide the content for your site, unless otherwise specified:
1. Logo – do you have a logo? If not, a basic text logo can be created.
2. Images – we’ll need high resolution images for an image slider; other images can be lower resolution (smaller). You will need to provide any images.
3. Videos – the best way to use videos is to store them on YouTube, Vimeo or another video hosting site. By doing it this way you don’t need to purchase a video player. You will need to provide any videos.
4. Audio – audio clips can be hosted on your site without purchasing a player. You will need to provide audio files.
5. Text – the text for each page must be provided. Writing your content is not included.
Building Your Website
UGiveGoodWeb will need the login and password to your web hosting account. Once we have it we can begin to set up your site. This includes:
1. Installing WordPress.
2. Installing recommended plugins (e.g. spam protection, slideshow programs, etc.)
3. Installing and configuring your theme.
4. Setting up pages.
5. Adding your initial content to the pages.
6. Configuring or laying out the home page.
7. Modifying the CSS and HTML to get what you want within reason.
As the site is built, we’ll ask you for your feedback and make modifications as needed based upon our initial agreement. The basic installation and setup does not include custom modifications to your theme, premium or complex plugin setup or other customizations.
Pricing Your Website
Website development is not a fixed price process. However, we do offer a fixed price for basic WordPress installation. Most people want modifications as soon as they see their site the first time. This is normal. If you purchased the basic site installation and set up for a fixed price, modifications are limited. We want satisfied customers and revisions are expected. However, endless modifications or changes are not included. We’ll make modifications or changes, within reason, until you are satisfied. Modifications beyond the basic installation will be billed at an hourly rate.
Paying for Your Website
Normally 50% upfront payable via PayPal and 50% when the site is completed.
